What That Smell?

Cover your nose!

It’s Garlic Day!

Scientifically, it would be
Allium Sativum Day –
but that doesn’t have
the same ring to it.
 You get the sense
that some cool facts are coming,
don’t you?!
I didn’t know this one –
garlic and onions
are in the same family
as asparagus.

We already know that,
if vampires and devils
are giving you a hard time,
strings of garlic will keep
these nasty things at bay!
Way, way back in 1858,
garlic was noted for it’s
 anti-bacterial qualities.
Think this was a long time ago?
 The Chinese wrote about garlic
 way, way, way, way
back in 3000BC!
 I like this one –
if you add garlic to wine,
 drink it and then vomit...
your haemorrhoids will disappear!
 Thoughts were that it helped
stop epilepsy, asthma,
coughing and insomnia.
Maybe it helps with
dog and snake bites
(Australia does have
some nasty snakes, though...
 I don’t know that garlic
alone would save me
 from a brown snake bite!)

Toothache?
Soak garlic in vinegar –
chew the garlic...
problem solved!
So, a clove a day keeps
the doctor away –
seems to be true enough!
 A clove a day
lowers blood pressure,
helps against heart disease,
fungal and bacterial infections.
 The list of benefits goes
 on and on and on...
Photos from here and here.

Small milestone...
this is the Cow’s 300th post!
