Candy Day

OK, candy screams to me
that this is an American day…
but, it’s an excuse to eat
“candy”, right?
Must celebrate.

Let’s find some weird facts
(or maybe creative versions
of the truth… but it’s candy,
so I don’t really feel like
investigating too far into the “facts”.)

Frank C. Mars was born in 1882.
Having polio, he was unable
to go to school…
so, his mum taught him to cook.
Lucky!
The Mars confectionary company
made their first candies in 1911.
In the 1920s,
the Milky Way was born.
Snickers bars were named
after a horse
owned by the Mars family.
The Snickers brand arrived in 1930.
1936 brought us Maltesers!
In 1940 we get M&Ms.
Pal dog food was launched in 1954,
with the name “Meet” –
Oh wait,
only interested in chocolate/candy!
Ok, 1954, Mars bars arrive in Australia!
1955 and the Mars drinks line is started
 (not candy… but…)
in 1982, astronauts
took M&Ms to space –
the first candy in space.
I’m done researching.
Now, I’m going hunting
for the actual thing…

Information from here and here.
