World Social Justice Day

This is the message
for World Social Justice Day 2012:
“Let us work together to balance the global economy and build a new social contract for the 21st century.  Let us chart a development path that leads to greater social justice and the future we want.”
(Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon).

So... what is Social Justice?

We uphold the principles
of social justice when we:
 promote gender equity...
promote the rights
of indigenous people...
promote the rights of migrants.

We advance social justice
when we remove the barriers faced
due to gender, age, race,
ethnicity, religion, culture
or disability.

Something to think about:

80% of the world’s people
lack access to adequate
social protection.

Everyone should have access to
water, sanitation,
health and education.

 What an appropriate time
to mention Father Chris Riley
Organisation.  He works at assisting
homeless and disadvantaged youth.
By doing this, he hopes
to be able to break
the cycle of abuse, addiction
and neglect.

It seems that this is an idea
which follows closely
with today’s special day.

(More on Father
Chris Riley later)
