Carrot Cake for Elmo

They’re orange...
With bushy green tops.
Carrots
It seems that it’s Carrot Day
in America today –
but many different places
have their own special day
to celebrate carrots.
I never realised how important carrots are!
Some cool facts:
10 866 – that’s the number
of carrots that the average person
will consume in their lifetime.
They are not limited to their orange colour –
they can also be purple, red or white.
Carrot dreams lead to
prosperity and health
(Can’t say I have ever dreamed
about carrots!)
Young women who eat them
will marry early and have several healthy kids.
(Not true for me!)
5.839m long - The world’s longest recorded carrot
8.61 kilograms - The heaviest known carrot
 There is a carrot-pie flavoured
jelly bean! Delicious!
The first carrots were grown
as medicine – not as food.
While the early Australians made alcohol
from potatoes – they should have been
using carrots, which produce
more distilled spirit.
If your tobacco is drying out,
add a carrot to the tobacco bin!
One teaspoon of carrot seeds will number
about 2000 seeds!
And, if your garden has pests,
a strong decoction of carrot and root
makes a very good insecticide!

A great way to celebrate Carrot Day
would be to go to the carrot Museum –
yep, you heard me right...
there is a World Carrot Museum online!
Check out more carroty stuff here, here and here.

There's another reason to celebrate today!
It's Elmo's birthday!
