International Fire-fighter’s Day
occurs each
year on May 4th.
Today
is the day
to remember the lives lost…
fire fighters
who have lost their lives,
battling fires…
At the first sight of
flames,
we know we can
call the fire brigade…
they will come running,
hoses
splashing water
and they will fight
to protect everything
that is ours.
In Australia,
they will battle enormous
blazes…
During bushfire season,
Fire
fighters will come
from each state and territory
and fight flames
until they
are weary,
sooty
and covered in the smell of smoke.
Sometimes, the flames turn…
their training is
not enough…
Their luck runs out.
Sometimes, they go to work
and never go home.

Today is the day
we can remember the fire
fighters.
The ribbon used for today
has
two colours –
red and blue.
Red is for
the flames
and blue is for the water.
(While I
appreciate
the severity of the day,
I suggest that today
would be a perfect day
to have a fireman
rescue a kitten from the tree.
Don’t have a kitten in a tree?
Easy.
Get a kitten and a ladder…
climb into the tree
with the kitten…
leave
the kitten there
and call the fireman.
When he has rescued
the kitten thank him –
for the rescue
and for the
serious
and dangerous work
that all fire-fighters
– men and women –
do each day.
Photos from here,
Today is also
Star Wars Day
May 4th –
“May the forth
be with you”.
