Hold the Fish

Today is a Crazy Day for sure!
It’s Pizza With The Works
Except Anchovies Day.
That can’t be seen
 as being anything except crazy!
I still haven’t learned
to like the taste of anchovies!
I am giving up trying –
after hearing about today!
I never have to pretend
to want to learn
to like them again!

I am having some time
in the dark ages,
with my internet connection
at my house slowing down
to painfully slow!
Painfully!
I can’t open any webpage,
unless I’m ready to wait ten minutes.
I can’t research crazy, weird,
strange facts
when my internet is so slow!
I’m a four-or-five-pages-open-and
working-at-once-computer user!
I will have to look into
the problems and work them out –
and then, I’ll be back
blogging about crazy days!
Until then… I’m having Pizza!

Happy Day

McHappy Day

$3.66 million…
That’s this year’s Mchappy Day target!
For 30 years,
families have been lucky enough
to have their accommodation arranged
while they have
very sick children in hospital.
Australia has 13
Ronald McDonald
Homes Charity (RMHC).
 More than 100,000 families
have been helped by RMHC.
Sadly, 1 in 8 Aussies
have either stayed
in one of the houses or
knows someone who has.
These houses were first created
 in memory of McDonalds’ creator,
Ray Kroc.
He wanted to give something back
to the community.

McDonalds covers the costs
of administration and management.
The RMCH closest to me,
is at Randwick.
The Randwick House has 28 bedrooms.
There’s a communal kitchen
 and dining room –
with a pantry of staples.
There’s a toy room for the kids
and a brand new teenager’s room.
A team of staff run the House.
Many of the things that are done
around the House,
are done by volunteers.
Today is McHappy Day.
Today, Big Macs
are being sold everywhere…
and, two dollars from each Big Mac
sold today will go to the
Ronald McDonald House Charities!
 If you never eat McDonalds,
today is the day to have a Big Mac!
If you really don’t like Big Macs,
you can buy a Helping Hand.
All money raised from the
purchase of Helping Hands
will go to the Houses!
Can’t get to a McDonalds?
Easy!
You can buy a Helping Hand on-line.

I’m “one in eight”.
I know someone who is sleeping
in a Ronald McDonald House tonight!
I don’t eat McDonalds…
but, today…
I will have a Big Mac
and buy a Helping Hand.

Last year, we did this…
never realising how much
we were helping our future selves.
Today is an easy, easy way
 to make a huge difference!

Dracula!

Vampire Day
Ok, not Vampire Day…
but, it is the anniversary
of the birthday of Bram Stoker.
I’ll take you back to 1847…
Dublin, Ireland.
Mathilda gave birth to Bram.
(Ok, they called him Abraham.)
Poor Bram was a sickly little kid.
Confined to his room
and barely able to walk,
he spent hours reading books.
By 1864, he was back
 in good health
and headed to college.
He studied maths
and earned many awards for athletics.
 By 1870,
he graduated with honours.
He started a “side job”,
writing reviews
for theatre productions.
In 1878, he took on
the manager’s role
at the Lyceum Theatre in London.
 He performed this role
for 30 years.
In 1886, Bram wrote his first novel.
In 1897, Bram wrote Dracula…
perhaps the first novel
about vampires.
(Ok, there was an earlier one –
but surely Bram
can be called the Vampire King!)
For a long, long time
“Dracula” had little company
among Gothic Horror Vampire books.
 (Though Count Dracula
has lived on Sesame Street
since 1972!
But, did Count Dracula
ever drink blood?)
Now, vampire books are everywhere!
And, with the Cullens,
Bill and Eric becoming such
celebrity vampires,
I’m imagining that Vampire Stories
 are here to stay!
Bram died in London in 1912.
This is a special day
for yesterday.
Today is
Chaos Never Ends day,
but I’ve celebrated the day
with such gusto
that things have been too chaotic
for me to post about that!

Rays Unknown

What IS that?
That was my first thought
on seeing this picture.
A curious imagination
thought aliens must have finally
 been proved to exist!
But, no....
Today is X-Ray Day

More history, by the sounds of that.
 1895.
Germany.
Wilhelm Roentgen
accidentally discovered a “new” ray.
 Not knowing what it was,
he named it “X” ray…
which is the name
we still use today.
After discovering the ray
and figuring he knew
what it would do,
he asked his wife
to be the first person
to be x-rayed.
I guess she was pretty brave!
was of her hand
and her huge wedding ring.
Imagine a world without x-rays!

Stress Awareness Day

Stress Awareness Day

Lately, I’ve had some stress.
I’ve had a little more sweat –
and I think I could actually smell
the fear in my sweat. I
 had stomach rumblings
and felt hesitation
at having to leave
the safety of my car.
I’ve avoided eye contact,
yet the whole time
have been darting my eyes
 to check that I’m safe.
That’s stress.
I’m aware of it.
I don’t like it.
I’m done being aware of it now!

A little stress is a good thing –
research shows us this.
But, too much stress…
unhealthy.
So, recognise the stress
and do whatever it takes
to get yourself
out of the stressful situation.

Perhaps, you could celebrate
today’s other Crazy Day:
Tongue Twister Day
Get your tongue around these:
Which wristwatches
are Swiss wristwatches?

Many an anemone
sees an enemy anemone.
A tutor who tooted the flute
tried to tutor two tooters to toot.
Said the two to their tutor:
"Is it harder to toot,
Or to tutor two tooters to toot?"
The sixth sick sheik's
sixth sheep's sick.

I give up!

What's So Special About Today?

6th November
finds me a little stumped.
I can’t seem to find a crazy day…
and I can’t find
an interesting Special Day
I haven’t already posted about.
What to do!!?
I did learn that today
is the 311th day of the year 2012
(This being a leap year).
Scarily,
that leaves 55 days of the year.
In those 55 days,
I have to get myself ready for Christmas.
I have to finish off my working year.
I have to get ready
to attend the end-of-year functions.
I have to get ready
to say goodbye to 2012
and to welcome in 2013.
Only 55 days!
On another note,
I have been wondering…
2013…
how will the people
who are afraid of the number 13
cope with 365 days of 13?
Anyway…
a lot to do
and only 55 days of the year
 left to do them!

Best get busy!

Oh, and...
Today is the day Australia stops,
apparently.
Today, the Melbourne Cup is run.

What Do You Do?

Job Action Day
I guess there is a focus
 on your job and whether
it is challenging enough
or satisfying enough...
whether it suits you...

The webpage for today
looks a little too serious
for my mood today, so...
So, you could be paid
to stand in line for someone
who doesn’t want to wait.
Professional Queuer
would be your job title.
I hope you’d get double time
for overnight-sleep-in-line gigs.
How about Chocolate Tasting?
Could you do this?
How about a Snake Milker?
In Australia…
that would require a lot of bravery!
Beer Taster?
Not for me,
but I imagine a lot of people
would be pushing each other
aside for this position.
Ahh, Luxury Bed Tester…
I could go for this one.
Pet Food Taster?
Shudder.
Not interested!
Watching Paint Dry?
Someone needs to watch
and determine how long
it takes for paint to dry…
 how else would they know
how long it is
before you can apply the next coat?
There’s no end to the ridiculous
things you can get paid for!
Maybe, follow today’s idea…
check you are in the right place,
with the right income
and the right opportunities.
If your current job
isn’t right for you…
perhaps you might consider
being a
Crocodile Enclosure Cleaner…
